I watched parts of the Google I/O event today. Google’s got lots going on. When I purchased my Motorola Atrix 2 it was already an older model. I didn’t realize at the time that the carriers don’t really make a serious commitment to staying current on the software running on their phones. My carrier, AT&T has committed to getting the Atrix model I own to version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) sometime in 2012 Q4 (meaning December 31st). By then, Android version 5 (Jelly Bean) will have been released for six months. I’m confident they will never port that version to this phone – but I’ll probably move to a newer model some time next year anyways. If I knew then what I know now (and I do), I would have given priority to the version of Android running on the phone over some other characteristics.
